Pick 6 Sports is proud to present the premier youth flag football tournament in the Greater Boise Area! Turkey Bowl is all about having fun, showing your team's style via unique / fun uniforms and competing against other teams on the football field. The Turkey Bowl is a team tournament and teams are encouraged to register together. To register please have your coach or team parent submit the team registration.

Tournament Highlights

Every team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 3 games
Cost of tournament is $75 per team. (Less than $10 per player)
Tournament is open for 1st thru 8th graders. Grade level based on 2019-2020 school year.
Tournament is November 23rd and 24th at Settlers Park in Meridian Idaho.
Team size is between 6 to 11 players
Tournament is a team registration only
Gold and Silver Brackets based on pool play results
Teams who sign up for Pick 6 Spring 2020 league by December 1st will have their Turkey Bowl fee refunded or receive free entry.

Frequently asked questions

What is the format of the Turkey Bowl?

The Turkey Bowl is a 2 day tournament.

Saturday: Pool Play. Each team will play a 30 minute game (2 - 15 minute halves with a running clock) against the other teams in their pool. Teams will then be ranked and put into a single elimination bracket.

Sunday: Bracket Play - Each team will be seeded into either a Gold or Silver bracket based on pool play outcome on Saturday. Bracket games are 40 minutes long. (2 - 20 minute halves with a running clock) Games are single elimination.

Mercy Rule - If teams get up by 21 points or more the other team will have 1 drive to get under 21 points. If they do not, the game will be called.

Do teams provide their own uniforms?

Part of the fun of Turkey Bowl is seeing all of the different teams uniforms! Teams must come up with their own uniforms, Pick 6 Sports will not be providing t-shirts or uniforms. You can wear your flag football jerseys, get team shirts, break out your Boise State jerseys, or show your school spirit. Be unique and have fun!

Every team should have their player bring a white shirt that they can use encase there is a color conflict and one team does not have a reversible jersey. In cases of a color conflict (both teams have black jerseys), one team will be asked to wear their white shirts.

Grade/Age Verification Requirements

At the start of the tournament, each coach should have copies of a grade verification to provide to the Pick 6 Sports staff for all of their players when they check in.

Accepted Forms of verification:

ASB Card with School Year and Grade
Report Card that shows students name, school year and grade
Any documents from the school that show student name, school year and grade

Since this is a grade tournament, we are looking for something from the school that shows the child's name, school year and grade.

Kids can play up a grade level, no exceptions will be made to allow kids to play down a grade level for this tournament.

How does the Gold / Silver Bracket Work?

For bracket play, teams are divided into a Gold / Silver Championship bracket based on their pool play record. The goal of this is to ensure that teams are placed into a bracket to allow them to compete against similar level teams, while giving more teams the chance to win. The top 8 teams out of pool play will will advance to bracket play. The top 4 teams will be placed into the Gold Bracket in and the next 4 will be in the Silver.

Please note:

If there are more than 8 teams in an age group. only the top 8 will advance and other teams will be done after Pool Play
In situations where there are less than 8 teams, there will only be a gold division with the top 4 teams.

Is there other equipment my team needs?

Yes, all players are require to wear a mouth guard. If they need one, they can purchase one at the field for $5.

Teams will need to provide any equipment to warm up.

Flag belts will be provided for use at the field and all teams must use the flag belts provided by Pick 6 Sports to ensure an even playing field.

Teams are permitted to uses their own game ball as long as it is the right size and inflated. Pick 6 will provide a game ball for the game for teams who don't have a preference.

Weather Cancellation Policy

Good question and yes there are a chance that snow could cause a cancellation. We will be working with the City to make that call but below is how we would handle either a full cancellation or a partial cancellation due to weather.

Complete Cancellation due to Weather Teams will be provided a full refund of their registration fee.

Cancellation of Sunday

If the weather forecast is showing heavy snow on Sunday we will modify the tournament to 1 day.
1 pool (4 or less teams): Winner of pool play would be Champion.
2 pools: Winners of the pools would play on Saturday for the championship.
Refund: For a 1 day tournament, teams will be refunded $25 from their registration fee.

All refunds will be processed on the day of the cancellation and may take up to 5 days before it shows back up on method of payment.

Parent, Coach & Fan Behavior

Just like all Pick 6 Sports events, this tournament is about the Kids and the reason we are here playing this event. Poor, Bad, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated at these tournaments. Please review to ensure your team is aware of the expectations:

Expectations for Parents / Fans / Coaches

Due to a number of examples of poor behavior this season, we've put in some new rules to try to help curb this poor behavior. Please remember we are at a kids sporting event, and while we are giving out prizes, this is about the kids. Poor, bad, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated at our events.

Be Positive / Cheer Widely for All: We encourage all parents and fans to cheer loudly and be positive in supporting their teams
Don't talk to the Refs: Only the head coach (or coach on the field) should be talking to the Referee. When you are asking a question on the sideline it is taking their focus away from something else on the field.

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it: The #1 issue where we've had issues is with Parents saying something to a child on the other team. Just like you would not like another parent saying something to your child don't say something to a child on another team unless it is positive. Got a problem with something on the field? Let your coach know.
Get the Field Manager - Parents who have concerns with anything going on should be getting the field manager (wearing neon green) to address those concerns when they are happening.
Don't wait until you get home to let us know what went wrong, give us a chance to correct it at the field.

Yelling at Referee, Opposing Fans or Coaches

Pick 6 Sports should be a positive and stress free environment for our players, parents and referees. One of the things that quickly escalates situations is negative yelling, especially when it is directed at the other team, another fan or the referee.

1st Incident - Any yelling at the referee, opposing fans or coaches, or kids will result in:

Penalty on the Defense: The ball will moved to the 2 point orange cone (goal to go) and automatic 1st down if on the Defense.

Penalty on Offense: The offense will forfeit possession of the ball and it will be turned over to the opposing team with ball placed at blue cone (normal change of possession). Game will be stopped until the field manager comes over to address the issue with the individuals involved.

If Field Manager determines the individuals involved are not able to calm down or willing to remove themselves from the field, the field manager has the ability to call the game and award a victory to the other team.

2nd Incident - Upon a 2nd offense that warrants a penalty the game will be called and will be a forfeit for the team involved and will be asked to leave the tournament. If this occurs in pool play, the team is disqualified from any other games.

Fighting or Intentional Tackling

Fighting - Any player who strikes another player or attempts to to strike another player will be immediately ejected and must leave the field right away.

Player Fighting

Player will be ejected and will not be eligible for the remainder of the tournament.
Player and Player Family will need to exit the field to the parking lot and will not be permitted to come back on to the field for remainder of the tournament. Game will not be started until they have left the field.
If the player / parent are unwilling to leave the field in a timely manner (within 3 minutes of being asked) the game will be called and the team will be disqualified from the tournament.
The opposing team will be awarded 8 points on the scoreboard and get possession of the ball.

Coach / Parent Fighting

The game will be called and the team will be disqualified from the tournament.
The entire team will need to leave the premises right away or Authorities will be called.
Parents / Coaches involved will not be permitted to return to Pick 6 Sports event in any future date.
If both teams are involved in the incident, both teams will be disqualified and asked to leave the field immediately.

Intentional Contact - Any player who intentionally tackles another player will be immediately ejected from the game. An example of this would be a kid on a break away run where the defender tackles the kid from behind.

Player will be ejected and will not be eligible for the remainder of the tournament.
Player and family will be asked to leave the field.
The opposing team will be awarded 8 points on the scoreboard and get possession of the ball.
If there are 2 ejections during a game on the same team, the team will be automatically disqualified from the tournament.

Rules follow the same regular season rules with the exception of game times and the Mercy Rule. Please take a look below at some of the common questions:

Pool Play Game Times

For our 2 Day Tournaments, the first day is pool play.

How Pool Play works?

Teams will be in a pool of 3 or 4 teams
Each team will play each other to determine standings of the pool.
After the conclusion of pool play, the top team(s) in the pool will advance to the Gold Bracket, bottom teams to the Silver Bracket.

Pool Play Game Time:

2 - 15 Minute Halves (Running Clock)
Half Time is 1 minute long
1 - 1 Minute time out per half. (Time outs are use them or lose them, they don't carry over to the next half)
Teams have 30 second play clock

The visiting team has the choice to take the ball first or have it to start the 2nd half.

Pool Play Tie Breakers

Sometimes at the end of pool play we will have 2 or 3 teams tied for the top spot.

2 Teams tied with same record. The team that won the head to head during pool play will advance on to the bracket

3 Teams tied with the same record. This can occur during the 3 team pool where each team finishes 1 - 1 and no clear pool winner. In these instances we have a Sudden Death OT between the 3 teams.

Sudden Death OT

Teams will play Sudden Death OT. (Both teams will have 1 chance to have the ball) The 2 teams with the lowest seeding (based on their league seeding) will play 1st. The team who won the pool play meeting, can decide if they want ball 1st or 2nd.
The ball will be placed at the Blue Cone on the other side of the 1st down marker. (Goal to go)
In case of an interception the ball will be marked at the spot of the flag pull or the Blue cone, which ever is better field position.
After each teams has 1 possession, the team leading will win. If both teams are tied after 1 possession, the game will then be won by the first team to score.
If after 8 minutes the game is tied, the team who won the head to head meeting in pool play will be awarded the win.
The top Seed will then play the winner of this game for the right to advance from the pool.

Bracket Play Game Times

For our 2 Day Tournaments, the 2nd day of the tournament is the Championship bracket.

How Bracket Play works?

Teams will be in a single elimination bracket typically consistent between 4 to 12 teams.
If the team loses, they will be done for the tournament. If the team wins, they will continue to advance on to the next game.

Bracket Play Game Time:

2 - 20 Minute Halves (Running Clock)
Half Time is 3 minute long
1 - 1 Minute time out per half. (Time outs are use them or lose them, they don't carry over to the next half)
Teams have 30 second play clock

How does Overtime Work?

Mercy Rule for Tournaments

The Mercy rule for tournaments is different than the regular season.

Mercy rule for the tournament is 21 points.
Once a team goes up by 21 points, the opposing team will have 1 possession to get out of the Mercy state.
If they are unable to score, the game will be called.

What happens if time runs out in first half and a team is in Mercy?

The team who is in Mercy will start with the ball. (Regardless of if it is their turn)
If the team doesn't score, then the game is called.
